At Hardin County Honda, we’re fortunate to be so close to many beautiful, natural wonders. One such location is Mammoth Cave National Park, located south on I-65. Legend has it that this vast cave system was discovered when one of two European brothers came upon it by accident when hunting. It was either John or Francis Houchin (it is unknown which brother) that followed a wounded bear into one of the cave’s openings where one of them first laid eyes on this extraordinary structure.
When you’re picturing Mammoth Cave, don’t take the word “mammoth” lightly; this is the world’s longest known cave, extending for over 400 miles! That being said, Mammoth Cave offers more than just a small glimpse of strange, otherworldly, underground ecosystems. Visitors can take one of several different types of tours of the cavern, including the Historic Tour, the Frozen Niagara Tour, the Discovery Tour, and more. Some tours will even turn out the lights so that you can experience total darkness and silence underground.
When you’re done exploring the underground chambers, you can set up camp at one of the Mammoth Cave campsites, rent one of the nearby cabins, or stay the night in the quirky teepee motel, Wigwam Village Inn #2, in Cave City. On your way out, be sure to explore some of the quirky shops and roadside attractions that surround this truly unique area.
With spring in the air, it’s time to clean, but you don’t have to limit deep-cleaning to your house. Here are some spring cleaning tips for getting a shiny, like-new car.
A good clean comes from the inside out. Start by pulling out all the trash and other items you’ve left in the car for long periods of time, then scrub any dirt out of the nooks and crannies of your vehicle. Be sure to work from top to bottom, in order to avoid cleaning something twice.
Wash your mats and vacuum
We have no idea how much grime we drag into our car via the bottoms of our shoes. Your mats need some love, so power wash them and then vacuum the floors of your car.
Tires and undercarriage
These two components accumulate a lot of dirt and sludge during winter. When washing the outside of your vehicle, make sure you don’t miss these two crucial parts of your car.
Hand wash the exterior
Instead of going through a car wash, hand-washing is a gentler option that can allow you to get all the gritty details. Be sure to manually dry the car instead of letting it air dry to avoid spots.
Hardin County Honda is proud to announce that we’re working with Active Heroes, an organization that supports U.S. military service members, veterans, and their families. Throughout the month of April, we are donating a portion of our monthly sales and an additional $5 for every test drive to support Active Heroes and all that they do to help our community.
Active Heroes is headquartered in Louisville, KY, but it provides programs and support for military members, families, and veterans across the nation. The organization was founded in 2011 with a focus on ending the prevalence of veteran suicide. It has since grown to include a retreat center, a community center, and a peer mentor program. Active Heroes has a number of national signature activities to allow individuals and communities to participate in their goals. Golf tournaments, push-up challenges, motorcycle runs, 5ks, and video game tournaments are just a few of the events they host regularly.
There are a lot of ways to help support Active Heroes. First, you could donate money or your time to be a part of the programs and activities they offer. You could also take a look at their online store and buy a shirt or accessory to provide financial support and spread awareness of the issues they’re fighting. And of course, throughout the month of April consider stopping by Hardin County Honda for a test drive or your new ride to help us support this great cause.
Honda has a habit of stealing the spotlight, no matter where it happens to be. The Chicago Auto Show was no exception with the full lineup making an appearance. The new Odyssey minivan showed off its new design with pleasure. Meanwhile, enthusiasts raved about two new concept vehicles.
2018 Honda Odyssey
While the Odyssey doesn’t arrive until later this year, the minivan certainly turned heads at the Chicago Auto Show. Sleek curves and a tapered rear end offer a refined style while the interior was certainly something to be proud of.
The family-oriented interior boasted a plethora of space as well as a whole host of technology features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. As always, safety comes standard and the in-car vacuum offers parents a convenient way to clean up.
Drawing inspiration from its motorcycle roots, Honda debuted a concept vehicle unlike any other. Known as the Honda Project 2&4, the motorcycle-car features four wheels, a single seat, and a motorcycle engine that delivers 212 hp and 87 lb-ft of torque. While it weighs in at only 900 pounds, it’s still legal to drive on public roads.
Project 2&4 comes from a design competition between Honda’s designers and serves as a nod to the heritage of the Japanese brand.
The Honda Odyssey is one of the best-selling minivans on the road, and it’s clear that the model will keep that title, now that the 2018 Honda Odyssey debut has taken center stage at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
One of the greatest upgrades in the new Honda Odyssey is its new seating configuration, which includes a Magic Slide second row seat, allowing five seating positions and making it easy for passengers to access the third row.
Honda estimates that the 2018 Honda Odyssey will lead its class in fuel efficiency, though the official data hasn’t been released yet. The previous Odyssey bested its competition in fuel economy and the new Odyssey is nearly 100 pounds lighter this year.
Lastly, we learned at the auto show that the new Honda Odyssey will be powered by a 3.5-liter direct injection V6 engine, allowing the model to get up to 280 horsepower, compared to its predecessor’s 248 horsepower.
The new minivan should find itself in dealerships this spring. Want to learn more about the upcoming 2018 Honda Odyssey or take the current Honda Odyssey out on a test drive? Contact us or visit us any time, here at Hardin County Honda.
With Uber and similar ride-sharing services becoming more popular than ever – in which you can summon a driver with just the touch of a button – it’s no wonder that major automakers are taking notice and getting in on the game. The new Honda investment in Grab is proof of this trend.
Recently, Honda made a huge investment in Grab, an app similar to Uber and Lift, currently quite popular in Southeast Asia. Honda hasn’t shared their exact plans for Grab, but we think it’s safe to say that they will be offering Honda models for the system.
In fact, it’s incredibly likely that Honda will give some of their first self-driving cars to Grab, which should streamline the process for the app and provide excellent marketing and brand recognition opportunities for Honda.
Could Grab become as popular in the United States as Uber? With self-driving Honda models working as part of the service, Grab could become a household name. Only time will tell. Honda has been tight-lipped regarding their progress with self-driving cars, but the Honda investment in Grab indicates that they are getting closer and closer to the finish line.

Honda is joining forces with the NHL this year in Los Angeles. The Japanese carmaker was recently named the 2017 NHL All-Star Game title sponsor, which was revealed during the LA Auto Show earlier this month with a special appearance by NHL superstar Wayne Gretzky. The All-Star Game is set to occur on Sunday, January 29th at the Staples Center.
“Honda shares a love for the game of hockey with millions of fans around the world, and we are pleased to support the effort to host this ultimate showcase of the NHL and its incredibly talented players in our backyard,” said Jeff Conrad, Honda’s Senior Vice President and General Manager. “We look forward to working with the NHL to create some fun for fans throughout the 2017 All-Star Weekend including the intersection of Hockey and Hollywood that will be arriving at LA Life the last weekend of January.”
As the All-Star Game title sponsor, Honda will also present the game’s Most Valuable Player with an all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck at the end of the game. In honor of this partnership between the Japanese carmaker and the NHL, Honda showed off a custom-wrapped 2017 Honda Ridgeline truck during the 2016 LA Auto Show, allowing hockey fans attending the automotive show to take pictures with the “MVP Ridgeline” at the Honda booth.

The 2017 Civic Hatchback design is making news around the globe. Thanks to some innovative style changes and upgraded aerodynamics, this model is faster, more efficient, and better looking than ever before. In fact, at first glance, you won’t be able to take your eyes off the new 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback.
According to Digital Trends, the hatch design is European-inspired. That means it comes with a sloping five-door design—which includes a liftgate instead of a standard trunk. The interior is actually roomier than a sedan, capable of seating five very comfortably. Best of all, the sloping contours and aggressive exterior make a bold statement.
“The Civic Hatch has been a staple for Honda in Europe, but has long been the forbidden fruit for Honda fans in the U.S.,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Now, we’re bringing this sporty, stylish and versatile Civic Hatchback to North America, as we amp up the performance of our incredible Civic lineup with each new Civic model.”
What’s so special about the new Civic exterior? This hatch model comes with an athletic stance and dark alloy wheels. An integrated spoiler and sweeping silhouette increase aerodynamics, while new air-intake vents add sporty appeal. The centered dual exhaust system also makes a statement, a feature that you rarely find on a hatchback. The Civic Hatchback will be released sometime soon, and its scheduled to hit the market before the much-anticipated Civic Type-R special performance model. We can’t wait to see both these Civics in action.
Hardin County Honda will have this new 2017 Civic Hatchback in stock soon! Keep an eye out!
